The much-anticipated annual fest of Indraprastha University, Anugoonj, was ushered in on the 28th of February 2015, with the inauguration function seeing hundreds of students in attendance, despite the unexpectedly scorching morning sun.

The word ‘anugoonj’ itself means ‘the echoing of small efforts’. And yet, the fest has only grown in magnitude since its conception. Held annually during springtime, the fest has, in the recent years, seen a footfall of over 60,000 students from around 110 affiliated colleges.

The inauguration program was anchored by Geetika Srivastava and SL Sriram, both students from the USS Law School. The function saw students of the Swarmudra club present an Ode to Ganeshji, to commence the event. The University Student Council President, Soham Vats, took to the dais, to accord the student community its credit, for the coordination of an event of such a considerable scale.

Rama Vaidyanathanji, the renowned Bharatnatyam dancer, graced the function as the chief guest for the event, and spoke a few words on the significance of cultural functions, as well as the amalgamation of old traditions with the new.

The Annual Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) Report was presented by Dr Nimisha Sharma, who highlighted the various grants made under different schemes for the students. These included grants for educational trips, as well as provisions for financial assistance to students proficient in their specific fields of sports. She further mentioned students’ contributions and accomplishments, notably the Birds of Dwarka publication by students of the University’s nature club. This was followed by a speech by the DSW Director, Prof C.S. Rai, who further went on to enunciate the DSW’s desire to continue with such schemes for the benefit of the students, in the future.

The commencement of a cultural event can scarce be complete without showcasing dance performances, and assuming this mantle was the university’s dance society, which featured dances from various regions of the country, ranging from Bihu to Bhangra. A concluding note being delivered by the Associate Director of the DSW, Dr Sanjay Kumar, the function was thus concluded, and the events for the 2015 fest, well underway.
